2009
SNHYB presented two separate performances this year. Back by popular demand, SNHYB presented Fairy Houses - The Ballet in a special matinee
performance. Audience members were invited afterward to meet and talk with the dancers in their fairy costumes. Fairy Houses author Tracy Kane
was present at the performance for book signing. SNHYB also presented Fairy Houses - The Ballet to a full theater of local school groups. Ms. Kane
and some of the dancers visited Weston Elementary in Manchester and Maple Avenue Elementary in Goffstown. SNHYB also presented "An Evening of Dance," a
sophisticated program of unique, professionally choreographed works by artists with national reputations. On the program were works submitted for the
Regional Dance America Northeast festival: Gershwin Medley an upbeat classical ballet by Douglas Davis, Choose a Path a contemporary modern
work by Melissa Desrosiers, Shard a neo-classical ballet to Stravinsky music by Lynn Cote, Inexpressible Joy an uplifting modern dance by
Robyn Goulette, Three for Three a short contemporary ballet piece by Lynn Cote and Bolero a powerful classical ballet piece by Patricia Lavoie.
2008
SNHYB had the distinct pleasure of collaborating with NH author and illustrator Tracy Kane to create a fabulous new story-ballet based on her award-winning Fairy Houses Series™. Ms. Kane offered input on story-line and costumes and sets, as resident choreographers created the characters and dances. The company organized a special performance for local schools and Ms. Kane made an appearance with some of the fairy dancers at Peter Woodbury School in Bedford. The public performances also included a classical excerpt from Scarlatti Sonatas by Patricia Lavoie and Peanuts & Crackerjacks by Melissa Desrosiers. SNHYB also performed Fairy Houses - The Ballet at Prescott Park in Portsmouth as part of the summer arts festival.
2007
SNHYB resident choreographers created another new story-ballet based on the popular Angelina Ballerina characters called Angelina Ballerina & the Three Princesses set to music by Vivaldi. In addition to this fun, family-friendly ballet, SNHYB also had the honor of presenting George Balanchine's Valse-Fantaisie again this season with guest artist Jeremy Collins. The ballet was staged by special guest Deborah Wingert of Studio Maestro, a repetiteur from the George Balanchine Trust®. Also on the program this year... Excerpts from Act 2 of the ballet classic Giselle and an original modern dance work called The Soul's Rainbow choreographed by Melissa Desrosiers to original music by Tod F. Parker.
2006
SNHYB presented The Magic Toyshop (La Boutique Fantasque). Guest choreographer Peter Pawlyshyn brought this one act work to life with brilliant character dances. The tarantella, mazurka, Russian dance and can-can were only the prelude to a beautiful pas de deux of the King and Queen of Hearts dolls. There was also a special presentation of The Magic Toyshop with live music performed by the Granite State Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Robert Babb. This performance was held for local schools and senior communities. The company also presented other repertory works on the program of the public concert, including Strings in Three Movements by guest choreographer Chiara Ajkun of Ajkun Ballet Theatre in New York City, Romanian Nightingale by Jeremy Collins, former principal dancer with American Ballet Theater, and a new modern piece Turn the World Around by artist-in-residence Melissa Desrosiers.
2005
SNHYB created a new story-ballet called Angelina Ballerina - The Understudy based on the book "Angelina and the Princess" by Katharine Hollabird. Also on the same program... Excerpts from the classical work Paquita (originally choreographed by Marius Petipa), Scarlatti Sonatas (a section from an original ballet piece choreographed by Artistic Director Patricia Lavoie), Concierto de Aranjuez (a new contemporary ballet with a Spanish flair by Patricia Lavoie) and an original modern dance piece choreographed by Melissa Desrosiers titled Strength of Spirit.
2004
In 2004, SNHYB ushered in the spring season with another exciting repertory concert. The company presented a brand new ballet in the Madeline series, titled Madeline, Pepito & the Spanish Princess, conceived and choreographed by Artistic Director Patricia Lavoie. The dancers also presented Act II of the classic ballet Swan Lake with guest artist Jeremy Collins (former principal dancer with American Ballet Theater) partnering Amy Von Handorf in the lead roles of Odette and Prince Siegfried. Another featured piece was the famous pas de deux from August Bournonville's Flower Festival in Genzano: 1858. And, of course, the crowd also enjoyed the lively BEATLEMANIA, an original work by Patricia Lavoie set to familiar Beatles tunes.
2003
SNHYB presented an encore performance of Madeline & The Red Shoes at the Palace Theatre in Manchester. Additional works included the world-famous comedic ballet Graduation Ball choreographed by David Lichine. In addition to these two works, an original dance choreographed by Artistic Director Patricia Lavoie to music by John Philip Sousa, titled Salute To America, was also performed.
2002
SNHYB celebrated the coming of spring with a presentation of Madeline & the Red Shoes at the Palace Theatre in Manchester. Upon the invitation of Artistic Director Patricia Lavoie, guest artist Kitty Seale (the ballet's choreographer and the Founder & Artistic Director of Alabama Dance Theatre) staged this colorful and light-hearted work for the company. SNHYB also performed Bolero, a technically difficult and breathtaking original work by Artistic Director Patricia Lavoie, as well as excerpts from the classic ballet Sleeping Beauty and modern choreography by artist-in-residence Melissa Desrosiers.
2001
In March 2001, Southern New Hampshire Youth Ballet presented its first spring concert at the Palace Theatre in Manchester, NH - "Spring Fling: A Gala Event." The evening showcased a piece titled Valse Fantaisie, a work licensed to SNHYB by The George Balanchine Trust in New York City, as well as excerpts from Giselle, Coppélia and other ballet and modern repertory works of the company. The students of SNHYB had the extraordinary opportunity to work with Darla Hoover, a repetiteur of the George Balanchine Trust and former New York City Ballet soloist, and Jonathon Stafford, a member of the New York City Ballet.
