Southern New Hampshire Youth Ballet will present its 7th annual production of The Nutcracker at The Palace Theatre from December 2-5, 2004. Come experience the magic of The Nutcracker with us!

A classical ballet in two acts, The Nutcracker is based upon the fairy tale by E.T.A. Hoffman. It is the story of a young girl named Clara who receives a special Christmas gift from her godfather, Herr Drosselmeyer - a handsome Nutcracker doll. After the family goes to bed on Christmas Eve, Clara gets up to retrieve her beloved Nutcracker and an evening of magic and wonderment unfold. Herr Drosselmeyer brings The Nutcracker doll to life and an exciting battle with an evil Mouse King ensues. Clara helps her Nutcracker defeat the Mouse King. Herr Drosselmeyer then transforms him into a handsome young man who leads Clara through an Enchanted Snow Forest to the Palace of Sweets where she is entertained by a number of exotic dances and a beautiful pas de deux by the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier.

Southern New Hampshire Youth Ballet presented its first full-length production of The Nutcracker in 1998. Each year since then has gotten bigger and better! Every year we expand our production to create a more stimulating experience for our audience. We build and incorporate new props and scenery, add new and more spectacular special effects, design and/or refurbish costumes, invite talented guest artists to compliment our own very talented dancers. The number of dancers, students, parents, and guest artists involved in our production continues to increase every year. Auditions are held in mid-September, and all intermediate/advanced students, adults, and children ages 8 and up are eligible.
