Southern New Hampshire Youth Ballet granted permission to perform George Balanchine's Valse-Fantasie
Recognition of Artistic Excellence Southern New Hampshire Youth Ballet had the distinct honor to perform renowned choreographer George Balanchine's ballet Valse-Fantaisie during the Youth Ballet's annual Spring Repertory event in March 2001.
The Youth Ballet was granted permission to perform the ballet after close scrutiny by Ms. Darla Hoover. Ms. Hoover was a former soloist with the New York City Ballet from 1980-1991, during which time she performed many of Mr. Balanchine's ballets. Since her retirement, she has devoted herself to teaching and staging the works of Mr. Balanchine. Employed by the George Balanchine Trust, an organization created to preserve Mr. Balanchine's rich legacy, Ms. Hoover is one of few individuals entrusted to stage George Balanchine's works.
In March of 2000, Artistic Director Patricia Lavoie invited Ms. Hoover to teach a master class at Southern New Hampshire Dance Theater. After working with the dancers, Ms. Hoover recommended Southern New Hampshire Youth Ballet to the George Balanchine Trust.
