Southern New Hampshire Youth Ballet's 2003 Spring Repertory includes performances of Madeline & The Red Shoes, Graduation Ball and Salute to America

Madeline is back! Southern NH Dance Theater & Youth Ballet is now preparing for its third annual Spring-Fling event.

They will be performing the delightful children’s ballet Madeline & the Red Shoes. Based on the famous French stories by Ludwig Von Bemelmans, Madeline & the Red Shoes is a colorful story ballet about the “twelve little girls in two straight lines” who live in Paris with their teacher Miss Clavel. It was a big hit last year, so if you missed it in 2002, be sure to check it out in 2003!

This fun and comical ballet is part of the repertoire of many professional dance companies around the world. Artistic Director, Patricia Lavoie and artist-in-residence, Melissa Desrosiers are staging the work for the dancers at SNHYB. The story takes place at a girl’s boarding school. The fun begins as a group of young cadets from a local military academy, accompanied by their head master, arrive for an evening of dance. The ballet comes to life with many memorable characters including a crazy girl with wild pigtails and a hilarious love scene between an old General and the Boarding School head Mistress.

Graduation Ball gives these young dancers the opportunity to perform some challenging choreography while having fun at the same time. Some of the young male talents at Southern NH Dance Theater (the official school of SNHYB) are also dancing in the production as well as guest artists Douglas Davis and Richard Ye.

Tickets are now on sale at the Palace Theatre box office (668-5588). Ticket prices are $15.00 and $12.00. Call now for seat availability.
